Approximately 3.3 million children are exposed to domestic violence every year. These children may face a dual threat - witnessing violence and being physically abused. The children in Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) Gwinnett emergency shelters are experiencing a range of feelings that include shame, confusion, guilt and anger. In addition to their turbulent emotions, these children have been uprooted from their homes and are now living with strangers in an unfamiliar setting.

PADV's childcare volunteers are critical to the well-being of the children. One of those childcare volunteers who exceeds all expectations is Gloria Edwards. Gloria has been a committed childcare volunteer in the Gwinnett emergency shelter for more than a year. She has provided nearly 60 hours of childcare services to PADV.

Gloria demonstrates dedication and patience with children of all ages. Whether she's entertaining babies or encouraging the older kids, the children always look forward to activities with her. She works hard to ensure that the children feel safe and loved during her weekly visits. The caring and nurturing disposition of Gloria is essential to helping these children feel safe and protected, which is an important first step in their healing process.
