PADV in the News Hearts with Hope Neighbor Newspaper Atlanta business executives supporting the Hearts wit Hope gala Feb. 23 at the InterContinental in Buckhead are John G. Rice and his wife Cammie. Pledging to help Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) surpass last year's gala fundraising record of $376,000, the couple hosted a recruiting reception in their Roswell home last month to present an impassioned account of how PADV makes good economic sense. Atlanta's business leaders estimate that intimate partner violence costs American businesses more than $8 billion annually. PADV, one of the oldest nonprofit domestic violence organizations in Georgia, offers 24-hour crisis intervention, shelter, clothing, food and support to help survivors build life-sustaining skill, find jobs and move forward to more productive lives. Citing that 30 percent of women and girls in Georgia will be abused by partners and that domestic violence is the leading cause of two million injuries in the state every year, the executives set a fundraising goal of $500,000 for this year's 20th annual event. The upbeat formal dinner with entertainment and an auction will salute the diverse companies who have joined in the effort to re-empower abused women and children and restore their self-sufficiency. Leading Buckhead business executives serving on the PADV board and host committee are Charles Barnwell, Rena Kilgannon and Ashley A. Palermo. Information (404) 870-9605. |
